Counseling Center for Students

Purpose

Our Center was established by a decision of the Academic Senate and has been in operation since September 2001.

Provides services to undergraduate and postgraduate students of Departments:

- Home Economics and Ecology
- Dietetics - Nutrition Science
- Geography
- Informatics and Telematics

The Center works closely with the University Interconnection Center to provide counseling support to students.

Services

Individual Counseling

The aim of this service is to help students facing problems (difficulties in adapting to the new environment, difficulties in making decisions, lack of interest, psychosomatic manifestations, eating disorders, phobias, depression, anxiety, addiction, etc.) learning problems, exam stress, poor time management, etc.) problems with communicating with parents, friends or comrades, or problems related to life events (illness, death, disasters, etc.). The aforementioned assistance is provided on an individual level, following the contact of the person concerned with the Center's partners.

Group Counseling

During the academic year, experiential and educational groups are set up, the themes of which are determined at the beginning of each semester and adapted to the needs of the students.

Indicative themes of the groups are: Personal development and self-esteem, developing interpersonal relationships, developing assertiveness, developing creative expression, managing anxiety, managing anger, time management, developing communication skills in the school environment, developing learning skills, etc.

The consultative approaches used for the functioning of the groups are: cognitive-behavioral (CBT), existential, art therapy, gestalt therapy and psychodrama.

Supervisory Counseling

The aim of Supervisory Counseling is to provide counseling and psychological assistance to graduates of the Departments of the University to address the difficulties they experience in their everyday life as professionals. This service is provided at a team level. In a climate of security and cooperation, team members recognize their problems and difficulties and seek solutions using creativity and their full potential.

Tele-counseling

This service is intended to provide specialized advice on the Internet. It is aimed at individuals (students, graduates) who do not have the opportunity to see a Consultant - Psychologist or prefer remote communication because of easier access to electronic media. Interested parties can submit their questions through the online questionnaire they will find here.

Questions are read by the Center's responsible partner every Monday and the responses are sent within 48 hours. In the event that interested parties wish to remain anonymous they may use a nickname or an identification code to which the reply will be sent.

In any case, the privacy of personal information is ensured, the sender of the message cannot be identified by third parties and these data will not be used for other purposes.

It is clarified that this service provides significant and specialized assistance but does not give the possibility of personal contact between a consultant and an advisor. For this reason, it cannot substitute a comprehensive consultative process and the answers given are in no way a formal diagnosis or opinion.

Other activities

The Center organizes Seminars, Workshops and Conferences on psycho-pedagogical issues. It also collaborates with primary and secondary schools to implement programs aimed at developing students' emotional intelligence and the communication skills of teachers.
